little white lies<\/p>\n
broken brutally by the<\/p>\n
Big Red ones, too<\/p>\n
broken by fear for, and<\/p>\n
broken also by fear of<\/p>\n
broken by outsiders – friends<\/p>\n
and family – some who<\/p>\n
meant well but just didn’t<\/p>\n
know any better<\/p>\n
some who meant harm and<\/p>\n
knew damn well<\/p>\n
broken by circumstance<\/p>\n
by distance<\/p>\n
by shame<\/p>\n
by difference of faith<\/p>\n
of opinion<\/p>\n
of strength<\/p>\n
and then, every day,<\/p>\n
sometimes several times a day,<\/p>\n
they are put back together<\/p>\n
sometimes lovingly<\/p>\n
sometimes fearfully<\/p>\n
sometimes forcefully<\/p>\n
into the broken, one-of-a-kind shape we call Us.<\/p>\n
